Gianluigi Donnarumma close to joining PSG

Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be hours away from finalising a deal to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is out of contract.

The 22-year-old shot stopper will walk away from San Siro this summer after Milan refused to meet his contract demands, with Juventus, Barcelona and Chelsea among the sides keeping a close eye on the situation.

Juventus had been seen as the favourites, but according to Gianluca Di Marzio, PSG have swooped in and struck a deal with Donnarumma to bring him to Parc des Princes this summer.

Talks are at a very advanced stage and all that is missing is the final confirmation from everyone involved, which is expected to come any second now.

Barring a late surprise, Donnarumma will ink a five-year contract worth in excess of £10m per season, and that does not include the bonuses which can take his earnings even higher.

A date for a medical has not been set yet, but the idea of a PSG doctor flying out to Italy to give Donnarumma the once-over is favourable as it would help speed things along.

It’s a bit of a weird one. While signing Donnarumma on a free transfer is obviously brilliant business for any side, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for a PSG team who already have Keylor Navas on their books.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Navas, who only signed a new contract in April, is definitely staying in Paris this summer, so PSG could be about to stick one of the game’s best goalkeepers on the bench all year.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who has close ties with Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola, has personally pushed for this signing and sees it as a way to steer PSG one step closer to the elusive Champions League glory.
